The black occlusive IOL is intended for patients suffering from manifest, binocular diplopia after trauma, tumor or other complications. Two models are available: the MS 612 black capsular bag IOL and the MS 714 PB black for Add-On or single sulcus implantation. Solid tinting gives the Occlusiva its black colour. In contrast to surface coating this solid tinting has the advantage that no scratches can damage the tinting when manipulated by forceps etc.
Marfan syndrome is a genetic defect that besides several overall symptoms also affects the eye, such as axial myopia caused by intense growing of the eye, lens disorders, iris- and ciliary body underdevelopment, subluxation and lentodonesis. Often an early removal of the natural lens is indicated, but IOL-implantation especially with regular IOLs in standard designs is hindered. Therefore HumanOptics (formerly Dr. Schmidt Intraocularlinsen) developed a special Marfan IOL for sulcus implantation with an angulation of 10°, a bigger optic of 7.0 mm and extended overall diameter of 14.0 mm to meet the special requirements of such cases.
